What a front-month symbol is
A listed futures code is three pieces stuck together: the market root, one month letter, and one year digit. SuperAreas.com Areas are published on these roots. The front month on this page is the contract month on today’s Areas sheet — the same month row you see on the live Areas view.
Worked example:
ESU6 = Sep 26
ES E-mini S&P 500 U September 6 2026
Read it left to right. ES is the market. U is always September. 6 is the last digit of the year, so 2026. Put the month and year together and you get Sep 26. SuperAreas may already be on the next listed month (for example ESZ6 = Dec 26) before the old contract expires. Micros and nanos use the same letter and digit: MESU6 is the micro of ESU6.
All 12 month letters
Every letter always means the same calendar month. U is September on ES, gold, crude, DAX, bitcoin — all of them. Exchanges skip some letters so they are not confused with numbers or each other (there is no I, L, O, P, R, S, T, W, or Y).
Year digit is the last number of the year: 6 = 2026, 7 = 2027, 5 = 2025. Platforms may also print two digits (ESU26) or a dash month (ES 09-26). Same contract.
